BABY'S JOURNEY

"Thanks to the sea who welcomed us without a visa... Thanks to the fish who will eat on my body without asking me what's my religion, or political status..."

- A good-bye letter found in the pocket of one of the thousands of Syrians who drowned in the Mediterranean while fleeing to Europe from the war in Syria, after all the other countries rejected them and denied them the visa. He wrote:

"Dear mom, I am sorry that the boat has drowned and I wasn't able to make it to Europe. I am sorry that I won't be able to send you back the money you had to borrow for my boat trip. Don't be sad if they never find my corpse in this wild sea; it won't bring me back to you, it will only bring you more debt and more funeral, burial, and transportation expenses.

I am sorry that the war has happened, and I'm sorry that I had to leave just like all the other kids who had dreams. Although my dreams weren't too big; I only dreamt of affording a bottle of medicine for your illness, and some money to fix your teeth.

By the way, the color of my teeth right now is green because of all the algae stuck on it. I still believe they're better looking than the teeth of our dictator though...

I am sorry that I built you an imaginary house in my dreams; a cozy wooden hut like the one in movies. A hut that is very far from barrel bombs, airplanes, and all the sectarianism we were surrounded with.

Dear brother, I am sorry that I wasn't able to send you the $50 I promised I will send every month to buy yourself something nice before you graduate.

Dear sister, I am sorry that I wasn't able to send you a nice smartphone with all the wi-fi and the technology that your friends at school are buying.

Dear home, I am sorry that I will never ever hang my jacket behind your door again.

Dear divers and rescue teams, I am sorry for all the trouble you have to go through to find our bodies, as I don't know the name of the sea I'm drowning in.

Dear United Nations and government agencies, please stay comfortable and please rest assured that I will never be a burden on you anymore.

Thanks to the sea who welcomed us without a visa... Thanks to the fish who will eat on my body without asking me for my religion, or political status...

Thanks to all the TV channels and news outlets who will share our news for a few minutes everyday to make some money off our story while it's still hot and interesting.

Thank you all for feeling sorry for us...

I am sorry that I drowned..."

Freedom to Journey

“Freedom to Fail (Freedom to Succeed)”

Along the way I’ve found that one of the greatest joys of the journey is giving myself permission to fail—and to succeed. I’ve discovered that my worth is not wrapped up in my successes or failures, how many people like me, how influential my friends are, what kind of shoes I wear, or the kind of car I drive. None of these define me; none change my worth. Nothing I do can change God’s view of me. Nothing can change my value in His eyes.

This is true freedom.

This is an awakening that frees me from the fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of what others might think. This freedom allows me to step outside of my comfort zone and realize that even if I fail, it will not affect who I am (or who I become). My failures no longer define me.

So join me on my joyful journey by giving yourself the permission to fail—and to succeed.

Final Thought: Success or failure cannot change my value or my ability to be loved—these are unchangeable. My actions cannot change who God is. My actions cannot change how He loves me. These realizations give me freedom to succeed. ~Trena Reed

How You Learn To Love Again and Why Your First Love Is Never The Greatest

How You Learn To Love Again and Why Your First Love Is Never The Greatest

Everybody is always making a big fuss over the “first love” concept, and how it’s this life-changing thing that never really fades away. But I feel like while your first love is great, and probably shows you things about yourself that you didn’t know, and inevitably breaks your heart, what we should really be talking about is the second and third and fourth great loves that show us that we can feel that way for someone again.

After that “first great love” breaks your heart you get to thinking they’re one in a billion, the only fish in this sea that could possibly jive with you, that could possibly make you want to touch them all night and then just sit next to them while watching Netflix and go grocery shopping and talk about the annoying things that happened today and all the little, ridiculous nuances of everyday life that nobody else could possibly understand but them.

But one day, usually when we’re least expecting it, someone else comes along. Usually, we’re hesitant to love them. We think we’re broken and “we need time” when really it’s just an excuse to not be with someone because we’re too afraid of our own feelings. But what we realize, slowly, but then all at once, is that the person we have in our lives right now makes us happier than that other person did. They ended for a reason, and you don’t have to end what you have because of what happened in the past. It’s over, your thoughts are the only thing that keeps it alive.

And maybe we want to keep these things alive, because we can’t get over the fact that sometimes in life, we can love greatly and deeply but not forever. This is not what we were taught. We were raised on the notion that once we find someone we care about enough, we have to bind them together with us by law and conform to every convention set up for us to breed the next generation and live a blase live.

You don’t have to choose this. There will always be more love to find. It’s only ever a matter of getting over the fear of feeling again.
